Candle Making

Materials

  1. Paraffin wax. This can be bought from chemical companies or from petroleum-refining companies. The paraffin wax consists seven parts of the total candle.
  2. Two parts of microwax and one part of crystal wax. These can be bought at chemical or pharmaceutical outlets.
  3. Essential oil.
  4. Dye for making different colors.
  5. Containers for mixing colors and melting wax.
  6. Molds. This can be made of plaster of Paris or aluminum.
  7. Double boiler and a water heater.
  8. Wick. This is made of bleached cotton yarn available at the market.
  9. Ladle. This used when pouring the liquid wax into the mold.

Procedure
  • Cut the paraffin wax into pieces and heat in a double boiler until the wax is completely melted. This can also be done by utilizing a cooking stove and heating the pieces of wax in a cooking pan. Add dye to the melted wax.
  • Add two parts of microwax to the melted paraffin wax and mix until the microwax is completely melted.
  • Heat one part of crystal wax in a separate container and add it to the mixture of paraffin wax and the microwax. One teaspoon of essential oil per liter of the wax solution can be added in order to make the candels smooth and hard. Stearic acid may be used instead of the essential oil.
  • Prepare the mold on which to pour the wax. The molds are in two parts. Take out the clamps in order to separate the mold. Apply the oil into the cavities of the molds and bring both parts of the mold together and clip.
  • Take a big ladle and pour melted wax in he mold, fillinf it up to the top.
  • Put the mold in a pan of cold water. The wax will become solid in a few minutes.
  • Take out the mold from the water, open and remove the candles.
  • Cut off excess wick.

Packing

The candles are packed in strong paper or cardboard to avoid moisture. The label can be pasted on the packet of candles. You may print your own label if you wish.

Cost Economics
